iRobot Vacuum and Mop Review

iRobot Combo j7+

The Combo J7+ is a part of the robot vacuum and mop lineup and combines the robotic cleaner's smart mapping capabilities along with the ability to deal with spills. It has the same onboard acoustic sensors and iAdapt 2.0 navigation that is used by other Roomba options and maps your home 7 times faster than previous models. It also lets you set Keep Out Zones and Clean Zones to inform the robot which areas it should avoid and when it should clean them.

The most significant feature of the j7 is its robotic arm which keeps the mop pad locked away when not in use and allows it to clean carpets or hard flooring. The idea is to avoid spraying water onto the rug and the Combo J7+ did well at this in my testing. The robot backed away when it encountered the rug, and didn't attempt to cross it, even though I moved the rug around several times.

The arm comes with a 240mL tank that is easily removed and filled. This makes it more convenient to use than the mop pads found on many other 2-in-1 robotic arms. It also utilizes the iRobot's PrevisionVision obstacle avoidance technology, which is more advanced than other models of this kind.

iRobot Combo i5

The i3 Plus still has a number of other great features, including its advanced cleaning system that has a 10x power-lifting suction and a three-stage process for cleaning. It also features a textured exterior to protect against fingerprints, dust and pet hair.

It does well on plain floors and cleans the majority of debris, but it struggled with pet hair on low pile carpets. It does an excellent job with high pile carpets though and is much quieter than the other models. The i3 costs a bit more than the Roborock S4 Max, but it comes with a self-emptying mechanism that cleans the mop pads and refills the reservoir of water.

With the i3 app, you can set up schedules for cleaning at a time that suits your requirements. You can also use your voice assistant to control your robot and begin or stop the cleaning. It also monitors your home's unique floor layout to provide a personalized schedule and cleaning routines. However, it does have an efficient cleaning system as well as two rubber brushes that aren't tangled up with pet hair. It's a great choice for homes that have high-pile carpets as it can take on more dirt and debris than less powerful vacuums. The i4 requires less maintenance and has lower ongoing costs and is more efficient in the lowest suction mode.
